How to reduce the Christmas party hangover

It’s that time of year again and Christmas parties and get-togethers are in full flow!Festive parties often involve a merry knees up, and whilst a few drinks now and then shouldn’t cause you any harm, overdoing it can and you can end up with the dreaded Christmas hangover. We don’t think you should have to sacrifice your fun so we’re going to look at some ways you can reduce to effects of the Christmas parties.

The best way you can prepare for a night out is by making sure you’ve eaten a good meal before hand. Skipping a meal and going straight out might seem like a good idea at the start of the night, but drinking on an empty stomach is just going to lead to you having your head in the toilet by the end of the night. It’s also a good idea to stay hydrated. Alternate between drinks with a glass of water to keep your water levels and prevent your body from become dehydrated – that’s what causes those massive headaches the morning after. When you get home, get a glass of water down you before going to sleep too – you will feel much better for it in the morning. It will also make it easier for your body to get itself back to normal the next day and not leave you feeling as drained all day.

Avoid mixing drinks. Ok so this seems obvious now but when drinks are flowing it can be hard to say no! Mixing beers with spirits, wines with beers, etc, it’s going to leave you feeling dreadful. Stick to one type of drink and you’ll feel so much fresher!

Another way to recharge your system – if you can drag yourself out of bed – is taking an early trip to the sauna for a relaxing morning session. A 20 minutes session in the sauna will raise your body to a high temperature causing you to sweat. Although it may seem off putting sweating is actually really good for the body, it helps remove any bad toxins you are carrying in your system as they rise to the top and pass through the skin through the sweat droplets – perfect for clearing out the bad stuff from the night before! A session in the sauna or steam room will also help revive your skin from the night before so you’ll be fresh and ready to go for round two, three or four of the Christmas drinks!
